Welcome to Horsham Cycling

Our club is welcoming to all types of rider, from leisure cyclist to competitive racer. Seven groups meet at the Carfax every Sunday morning, each with different speeds and distances in mind.

Horsham is surrounded by fantastic Sussex countryside and quiet roads. The club is a great way of discovering new routes, making friends and perhaps opening yourself to new cycling challenges.

You can join us for a ride or two without being a member, why not give us a try? See the rides page for more details.

A chance for members to ride on any kind of bike they can dig out of the garage and, if you wish, don fancy dress, be that of a retro style or a humorous nature (no Lance Armstrongs or mankins) with the aim to have fun rather than race for the fastest time. I shall be riding my single speed bike with retro style cycling gear. Last year we had a Frenchman, the Cycle Gent, the wooden Tandem stoker and old school Racers. There will also be a race category for those who want to ride on their standard race bike and want to enjoy the festivities afterwards.

A maximum entry of 40, a £3 entry fee and a free post ride buffet will be provided by the club at The Punchbowl Inn. If you intend to ride please email me by Tuesday 5 May and also give me an idea of the style of bike you intend to ride e.g. Vintage, Single Speed, Mountain Bike, Shopper, Tourer, Fun, etc. I can then group the different types on the start list. Prizes will be awarded for the best bikes and outfits on show! I look forward to seeing you all on the day.

Forum - Cycling Services - Member Benefits.

We have changed the purpose of the Cycling Services message board on the Forum. It will now feature details of products and services related to cycling where the provider is also providing a benefit to HC members. Information will be added as and when providers contact us.

Please note this section of the forum will not be open to replies. If you have a service or product to recommend you can do this on the Off-Topic message board. We hope you will find this change useful.

Guide to riding a Club Time Trial.

Our guide provides an excellent run down of the preparation you need to make and the things that can be expected on a TT. It has been revised to include details of clothing requirements and number placement. We would request that members who intend to enter a HC time trial this season peruse this guide. The document can be found under the Racing 'tab' of the website.

Open Time Trials.

HC is affiliated to various time trial associations which means Club members can enter Open TTs organised and run under the Cycling Time Trial (CTT) rules.

The following website has on-line entry details http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/Home

Any questions related to entering Open events can be directed to me or any of the Racing Sub Committee (details on the Contact 'tab' of our website) in the Carfax on a Sunday morning or the Saturday/Tuesday Club TT events.

Time Trial Season.

A busy time trialling season with 16 Club TTs, an Open 10 in June, the 25 TT included with SCCU in September and the Hill Climb finale in October at Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking. The timetable can be found under the Racing 'tab' of the Club website.

We are racing on four courses this year, with the fast 10 mile course of G10/57 providing the chance of Personal Best times on the Horsham-Crawley dual carriageway. The hilly G10/46 Okewood Hill 10 mile course is utilised just the once for the annual 'Special Time Trial' where non-race orientated members are encouraged to dig out all manner of bikes to give it a go in a social atmosphere. The Faygate 14 mile course provides a hilly test of stamina on quieter rural roads where horses are more likely to slow the riders rather than roundabout junctions. Finally, a 22 mile hilly course GS/188 will provide a tough test on rural roads.

Full details of each TT and post race report will appear in e.news.
