Welcome to Horsham Cycling

Our club is welcoming to all types of rider, from leisure cyclist to competitive racer. Seven groups meet at the Carfax every Sunday morning, each with different speeds and distances in mind.

Horsham is surrounded by fantastic Sussex countryside and quiet roads. The club is a great way of discovering new routes, making friends and perhaps opening yourself to new cycling challenges.

You can join us for a ride or two without being a member, why not give us a try? See the rides page for more details.

Club Rules.

Following the introduction of the Youth Policy which was announced last week a new Club rule 12 has been introduced and is shown below. Please take a moment to read it.

12. The Club takes the welfare of its younger members seriously, so if any member has cause for concern over the welfare of a fellow member under the age of 18 they should report it to the Club Welfare Officer or a Club Official straightaway.

Thank you.

Youth Policy.

HC is open to young people under the age of 18 and over 13 to join and as such it is important we have a Youth Policy. We have been seeking advice from the compliance team at British Cycling and are also indebted to Peter David in providing us with a practical critique of the policy and procedure we have developed. We have also strengthened the joining process and consent form.

The Youth Policy is now on our website under the 'Club' section.

We all have a duty of care to young people and an important principle of this is that each member must report any form of concerns raised by a young member whether its Club related or not.

Will you please take a few moments to review the Policy.

Christmas Dinner and Awards Evening - Thursday 10 December.

This event will be at The Warnham Barn, Rookwood Golf Club, Robin Hood Lane, Horsham RH12 3RR - 19:00 for 19:30 start.

You can opt for two courses (£18.75) or three courses (£23.00), to include coffee or tea. Prices include a subsidy from HC of £5 per head which will cover the cost of some of the food as well as the tip. Drinks are not included and will need to be paid for on the night. Members only for this event. Please click here for the menu, choose what you would like to eat and email me by Sunday 22 November. Payment in full is by Paypal via Event Payment on the bottom right hand side on the front page of the website. Please let me know if you are unable to pay in this way so we can arrange an alternative method. Sorry - no refunds for non-attendance.

The seating plan worked well last year so I will do the same again this year. Each table will seat either eight or ten people, depending on numbers. So if there is someone you would particularly like to sit with, please let me know when booking so that I can do my best to keep everyone happy. I won't be able to do last minute changes as the table plans will need to be determined in advance for Rookwood, so you need to let me have this information up-front.

General Meeting - Thursday 19 November 19:30.

You will have seen the notices issued by Robert Skeet, Secretary about our forthcoming General Meeting at The Holbrook Club, North Heath Lane, Horsham RH12 5PJ (e.mails and attachments 26 October, 7 & 16 November).

I would like to stress the formal part will be dealt with quickly allowing good time for you to raise any questions, feedback etc. The main focus is then on the social part where drinks will be provided. Come along and as with our pub nights a good chance to meet up with members, new and old, and talk cycling! It would be great to see you there.

Winter Reliability Trial - Sunday 15 November - Report.

newhaven-nov15Today we had 58 riders turn up for the reliability trial. The riders had a choice of three rides, Newhaven (67 miles), Shoreham Airport (42 miles) and Wiston (30 miles). The most popular ride was to Shoreham Airport with 27 riders, while Newhaven attracted 16 and the short ride to Wiston 15. It was good to see 15 riders form the Crawley Wheelers and a guest from the Dulwich Cycling Club. Most of the riders commented although very windy it was not as bad as they expected. Many riders made it back well within their chosen time standard, and some told me that they could have selected a shorter time.

As usual, all enjoyed the home baking and the drinks back at the Youth Wing.

Thanks to Ali and his wife Alyson for the baking and to Owen Drake & Cliff Eastwood for timing the event.

Stewart Forbes, Competitions.
