Welcome to Horsham Cycling

Our club is welcoming to all types of rider, from leisure cyclist to competitive racer. Seven groups meet at the Carfax every Sunday morning, each with different speeds and distances in mind.

Horsham is surrounded by fantastic Sussex countryside and quiet roads. The club is a great way of discovering new routes, making friends and perhaps opening yourself to new cycling challenges.

You can join us for a ride or two without being a member, why not give us a try? See the rides page for more details.

Road Racing Update

Last week we had the good news that Horsham Cycling is now affiliated to the Surrey League. This will allow any member of Horsham Cycling to race in any Surrey League road race.

As part of this affiliation Horsham Cycling will need to host two events on behalf of the Surrey League. These events are on:

• 7pm 11th May '18 – Dunsfold Aerodrome

• 7pm 13th June '18 – Dunsfold Aerodrome

Please let me know if you will be able to volunteer for any of these events.

Racing in a Surrey League event

To race in a road race event you must have the following as a minimum

• British Cycling silver membership

• 4th category road race licence from British Cycling – this is separate to the licence you get as part of your BC membership

• Standard road bike – disc brakes are now acceptable

Have a look at the British Cycling website or Youtube about how to get into road racing – there are some really useful videos that give a good taste for preparing to road race.

In addition, to race in a Surrey League event you will need to have attended/passed two novice race days hosted by the Surrey League. Upcoming dates for these events are:

30th December 2017

13th January 2018

20th January 2018

27th January 2018

Further information on these events can be found at:

Racing non-Surrey League events

You can still race at other events hosted under British Cycling rules without attending the Surrey League novice race days. There are a number of winter race series that go on during January, February and March which you may wish to 'dip your toe in' before the Surrey League events start. A list of these events can be found on the British Cycling website at the Events Search Tool.

Winter Reliability Trial Report November 2017

A cold November morning did not deter the 51 riders that turned out for today's event made up of 44 from our own Club, 2 Crawley Wheelers, 2 Cycle Room, 1 Dorking CC and two guests.

This time we introduced a new registration system where the riders filled out their own RT card which speeded up the process greatly.

We had three rides as usual, the longest to Newhaven, the middle ride to Shoreham Airport, a favourite for many, and the short Cranleigh ride. Newhaven attracted 12 riders, Shoreham the most popular with 35 riders and 4 opting for the shorter ride to Cranleigh.

Eight members supplied home baking for the event which was enjoyed post ride with hot drinks. There was a great friendly atmosphere back at the HQ giving members the opportunity to socialise with others from different ride groups.

Thanks to Malcolm Curtis with assisting me with registration and timing, to Sabina for serving teas and coffees, and to Ray Watson, Tony Banbury, Lloyd Griffin, Martine Burke, Stewart Salt, Ali Bruce, Malcolm Rawlins and Steph Pendlebury for their delicious home baking.

The next RT is on a rescheduled date of Sunday 21 January 2018 with rides to Hindhead and Washington. The Washing destination is the village hall where the Brighton Excelsior CC host their early season elevenses for the local clubs.
