Welcome to Horsham Cycling

Our club is welcoming to all types of rider, from leisure cyclist to competitive racer. Seven groups meet at the Carfax every Sunday morning, each with different speeds and distances in mind.

Horsham is surrounded by fantastic Sussex countryside and quiet roads. The club is a great way of discovering new routes, making friends and perhaps opening yourself to new cycling challenges.

You can join us for a ride or two without being a member, why not give us a try? See the rides page for more details.

Dunwich Dynamo Report 2017

This year 16 members and 1 guest from Cranleigh CC successfully and safely navigated their way overnight from London Fields, Hackney to the Suffolk coast at Dunwich. Leaving London at 7.45pm, and reaching the beach between 3:45 and 5:30am. The weather was excellent, warm with just occasional light winds and the full moon lighting up the roads at times. Each group was somehow drawn to the Ship pub where we met for breakfast, a few beers and post ride chatter.

Another brilliant event on quiet well surfaced roads, only possible because of organiser and van driver Stewart Forbes and minibus driver Peter David.

Dunwich Dynamo XXVI takes place on 28/29th July 2018.

Annual Lunch

Club members enjoyed our Annual Lunch BBQ in June. Held at the Warnham Barn, Rookwood Golf course. This year we were blessed with good weather, so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

The guests finished their usual Sunday Club rides at the BBQ to be rewarded with nice food and refreshments from the bar. A great time was had by all. Thanks to the staff at the Rookwood for making this a great event.

The Winchester Wanderer

This weekend, 21 Horsham Cycling members enjoyed a lovely weekend near Winchester. Two main groups cycled there on Friday. Others went by themselves or on the train. Our venue was Spartsholt College were we had nice accommodation with a bar and restaurant.

Saturday was taken up with rides in the area with John Chaplin and Ian Hiscock leading an 80 mile ride to the New Forest and back. We passed the Lyndhurst Park Hotel where we had stayed on a previous Spring tour. (2013 I think) Sad to say it was derelict and boarded up. The things that happen after a Horsham Cycling trip eh?

Colin Ward led a ride to Romsey at a more leisurely pace. With the group stopping at a French Restaurant for lunch. It was good to see Richard and Steph out on their tandem. This year we didn't have too many mechanicals, unlike last year!

However, it has to be said that one unnamed rider had problems with a rattle at the front of his bike. Handlebar stems, bearings etc were suitably adjusted and tightened but the noise didn't go away. After 10 minutes of head scratching the problem was discovered to be a Mars Bar bouncing about in his crossbar bag! No complaints though as the group had a brief rest . .

Both evenings were spent socialising in the bar. Big thanks to Fiona who had organised a game on Saturday night. This involved guessing peoples names by firstly describing them, then describing them with just one word and finally describing them with no words but actions only. A close run contest but Morag's team won. Great fun!

Then the ride back to Horsham on Sunday. All in all it was magical weekend that attracted both Sporting riders and Social riders. Thanks to everyone for making it such a great weekend . .

SCCU sporting 10 - Horsham CyclingTeam Prize

sccu10-mar-26The first of the bigger Open TT's, the SCCU sporting 10, took place on Saturday on one of our Club courses, the G10/46 at Oakwood Hil.

Horsham were well represented, with Jon Fry, Tim Peters, Tony Brown and Dale Baldwin holding up the honours. Angela Radden-Rutt (The Cycle Room) was also competing.

Conditions were far from ideal, with a strong headwind all the way on the drag up to Ockley. That didn't stop Rob Sharland (Paceline) posting an impressive 21.55 time, blowing the rest of the field away. In the end Dale managed a 25.40, putting him in 13th overall, with Jon 26.21 and Tim 26.41. Tony had a mechanical right at the start, dropping his chain as he set off and lost a big chunk of time putting it back on, and came in on 27.16. Angela rode a course PB to win the ladies competition in a time of 27.49.

Our top 3 combined times were good enough to win the overall team prize, so we went home a bottle of wine and 10 quid better off. A great start to the TT season.
