2010 Trophies

In  2010 we will be holding a total of 15 Club Time Trials, 1 Open Time Trial, our Hill Climb and the Social Group Downhill Competiton. The Club 14.8 mile race on the 25th May will be either a two up or individual race as in previous years.

Our 2010 Club Competitions will be as follows: (Unless obvious to the contrary, “Club Members” includes both men and women).

The 25 Trophy (new) Sun 5th September 2010

This is an aditional trophy which will be awarded to the fastest first claim Club member in a nominated 25 mile. The nominated open time trial for this year is the Southern Counties Cycling Union 25 mile event on the G25/53 course (Horsham-Crawley-Peas Pottage-Southwater)

Entries to: C Derick, 43 Aviemore Way, Beckenham, Kent. BR3 3RP  Tel 020 8658 5215       Entry fee £7

The Handicap Trophy

This will be awarded to the fastest first claim Club Member on a handicap basis. Each rider who wishes to compete for this trophy must have ridden four 10 mile races and two individual, (not 2 up), 14.8 mile races before the 20th July 2010. This can be any of the Club or Open events that we are holding.

The Time Trial sub-committee will then review the entrant’s times up to that date and give each rider a handicap. This will mean that the fastest Club rider at each distance will be given Scratch ie. (NO time allowance) for that distance and the slowest rider will be given a handicap time of, say +7minutes to reflect the fact that their qualifying time is 7 minutes slower than the scratch rider over the same distance.

Each rider will then ride the 14.8 miles race on the 20th July and the 10 miles race on the 27th July, which will be the qualifying events for this trophy. The handicap allowance will then be removed from the times actually recorded and the rider with the fastest nett time over both races will be declared the winner.

Of course, riders who do not want to participate in the Handicap Trophy competition may still enter the qualifying events but in the case of over-subscription, preference will be given to those who are in the running for the trophy.

Scratch Trophy

This will be awarded to the first claim Club Member that produces the fastest aggregate time for a Club 10 miles and 14.8 miles race. All Club events count plus our Open Time Trial.

Veterans Trophy

This will be awarded to the first claim Club Veteran Member (over 40) that produces the best aggregate plus against the VTTA/CTT standards for a Club 10 miles and 14.8 miles race. All Club events count plus our Open Time Trials. Veterans standard times will be based on their ages at the 1st March 2010.

Points Trophy

This will be awarded to the first claim Club Member with the largest points total at the 10th August 2010. There will be a maximum of 30 points for the fastest rider down to 1 point for the 30th placed Club rider in all of our 10 mile and 14.8 mile events and the Hill Climb. When allocating points for this Trophy the finishing positions of 2nd claim and other riders will be removed from the results of individual races.

Hillclimb Trophy

This will be awarded to the fastest first claim Club Member in the Club Hill Climb on the 10th August 2009.

Ladies Trophy

This will be awarded to the first claim Lady Club Member that produces the fastest aggregate time for a Club 10 miles and 14.8 miles race. All Club events count plus our Open Time Trial.

Junior Trophy

This will be awarded to the first claim Junior Club Member (who has not reached their 18th birthday by the 3rd August 2010) that produces the fastest aggregate time for a Club 10 miles and 14.8 miles race. All Club events count plus our Open Time Trial. Only riders using standard road bicycles (not specialist aerodynamic time trial machines) will be eligible

Social Group Downhill Trophy

This will be awarded to the first claim Social Group Member that covers the greatest distance in the Social Group Downhill “Freewheeling” Competition to be held on the 3rd October 2010. To qualify for this Competition members of the Club must be recognised members of the Social groups. In the event of any queries on eligibility for this Trophy the Social Group Ride Co-ordinators will advise.

With the exception of the Hill Climb Trophy a first claim Club Member may be awarded only one of the Trophies. We hope that the rules are self-explanatory but if anyone requires any further information please ask Stewart Forbes, Mike Cross, Bryn Reeves or Peter Delve who will be pleased to help.

Club Time Trial Entry Rules

In order to guarantee your entry and to help smooth the adminstration, please observe the following rules:

  1. If you want to have a guaranteed ride the first 30 Club members to pre-enter the evening 10’s before 5pm on the day of the event will be given a place on the start sheet. Any Club members over and above the 30 who pre-enter will be placed on a reserve list. Entries should be emailed or phoned through to Stewart Forbes on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 01403756271 or 07745536779 by 5pm. The same conditions will apply to the August 10’s but with the lower limit on numbers and the first 25 entries for the Sporting events on the GS/189 Faygate/Newdigate course.
  2. If, having pre-entered you are unable to attend please call Stewart before 7.00pm on the day of the event on 07745536779 to advise your non participation so that we can give your start time to someone else.
  3. If you have not signed on and been given your start number 20 minutes before the start of the event then we will give your start time to a reserve, firstly from the Club List and then from the non Club reserves. If you subsequently turn up later than 20 minutes before the start, you will be placed on the reserve list behind those who have asked to be reserves, irrespective of whether they are Club members or not.
