Pothole Reporting

Road defects including potholes should be reported to the relevant local authority. For the Horsham area, this would be West Sussex County Council. Other nearby areas are the responsiblity of Surrey County Council or East Sussex County Council.

West Sussex

The threshold for intervention in West Sussex is 40mm - i.e. a pothole needs to be deeper than 40mm before it is deemed to be a candidate for repair. For potholes between 40mm and 100mm deep, they will normally be fixed within 28 days.

You will need to provide WSCC with the following information:

  • The location of the pothole(s). You will need to be quite specific here and give as much information as possible. For example, "Tower Hill, Horsham, between the Boars Head and Number 2 (at the top of the hill)." is better than just "Tower Hill".
  • The potential dangers observed. Again, be quite specific for example, "There are six major 40+mm holes plus many others not quite so deep, and bad verges".
  • Anything else that might be relevant in helping to identify or highlight the dangers.
