Isle of Wight Weekend
The Club’s annual Isle of Wight weekend is one of the highlights of the HC calendar. This weekend is always popular and is a great mix of riding and socialising. The plan is to travel on the Friday 22 September 2023, stay two nights on the IoW and return on the Sunday.
Details and booking link below the photos!
Your luggage will be transported to and from the hotel. All you have to do is ride and enjoy yourself! (A club volunteer will drive your luggage to the hotel; mileage & ferry reimbursed).
We stay at The Clifton Hotel in Shanklin. They have 13 rooms available (mostly double/twin) which can also be single occupancy for a higher price. Bikes must be stored in two lockup sheds at the hotel.
The prices per person for two nights B&B, and your luggage transfer costs, will be:
- Shared occupancy of double or twin: £168 pp
- Single occupancy of double or twin: £234 pp (subject to availability)
Cancellation: the hotel will allow cancellations until 7 September. After this date, the club would pass-on any reduction received from the hotel. NOTE: if cancelling a half a shared room, you may be charged the difference unless the room can be filled.
Breakfast at the hotel is included. Our evening meals will be at a pub or restaurant in Shanklin. These will need to be paid for at the time and are not included in the costs above.
The plan is to set off on Friday and ride to Shanklin from Horsham. The distance from Horsham depends on which route you take. However it could be as little as 70 miles. This would put it in the reach of most riders in the club. There is also the option of taking the train some (or all) of the way if you feel like it. There will be organised group rides at social, inter and sporting pace.
On Saturday you can ride around the island, spend time in the local area or whatever takes your fancy. There will be organised rides to suit everyone but riders can choose their own route according to their ability.
Sunday is a “free day” with the rides back entirely up to you as to the route and the pace - typically in similar groups to the Friday ride.
